Trimania

App development

Challenge

Trimania is an artist focused event taking place every three years and is largely financed through sponsorships and donated services. The Tri-Main center, a former windshield factory in Buffalo, where this event is held, has a unique layout for each of the six floors which poses significant issues for the 6000 visitors trying to navigate an unfamiliar location. One of the major event costs is the production and printing of information brochures focused on wayfinding the facilities.

Solution

Our team strategized and came up with the idea of developing a point-to-point navigation app. This posed a significant challenge as we weren’t able to leverage GPS indoors - and internal beacons would have been too costly. In the end we used a combination of 3D visualization in app and physical printed QR codes around the facility to provide a shortest route mapping that visitors could follow.  The app included agenda and planning features with performance reminders and location pins of common facilities. Captured analytics indicated that at least one person in roughly 90% of the attending groups used the app.
